Rwanda Conference on Gender & Climate Change

On 26 - 27 November, we were honoured to partner with the Ministry of Environment, GIZ Rwanda, The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation, GGGI Rwanda, and the Women for Water & Climate Cooperation Network (WWCCN) for the 2nd Rwanda Conference on Gender & Climate Change (RCGCC 2025).
Held under the theme “Elevating Evidence into Action: A Gender-Responsive Climate Policy Dialogue,” the two-day conference brought together government institutions, researchers, development partners, civil society, and community actors to bridge the gap between evidence and effective climate policy.
Across keynote speeches, panel discussions, thematic sessions, and co-creation workshops, participants examined gender-responsive pathways for Rwanda's NDC 3.0, climate finance gaps, smart and climate-resilient agriculture, circular solutions, and strategies to reinforce community resilience. The conference culminated in the co-development of a Conference Communiqué outlining concrete policy recommendations for advancing gender-responsive climate action in Rwanda.
In his closing remarks, Samuel Ngoga, the Director of the Center for Climate Justice emphasized the importance of collaboration, solidarity, and ensuring that the outcomes of this conference translate into tangible change on the ground, reminding us that climate impacts are not gender neutral, and that meaningful progress requires centering women and vulnerable communities.
Grateful to all partners and participants for their commitment to building a future where gender equality and climate justice go hand in hand.
