The Kano Climate Justice Summit - Country Insight 2025 marks an important milestone in Africa’s journey toward locally led, inclusive, and justice-centered climate action. This convening built on the foundations laid at the 2024 Sustainability Summit in Kigali, which emphasized the need for African perspectives to shape global sustainability dialogues. From that dialogue, we established four guiding pillars for sustainable action: environmental protection alongside economic growth, community empowerment with marginalized groups at the center, leveraging technology and data driven insights, and promoting gender equity in climate action.

The Summit adopted a country-specific approach to deepen understanding of how climate change uniquely affects Kano State, its people, indigenous communities, cultural heritage, and economic priorities. By generating localized insights, the convening aimed to inform policies that are inclusive, actionable, and responsive to the lived realities of communities in Kano and, where relevant, across Nigeria.

Community leaders, policymakers, academics, entrepreneurs, and representatives from civil society convened to explore pathways for inclusive climate action, emphasizing the importance of multistakeholder collaboration and co-created solutions. Beyond policy formulation, the Summit underscored the vital role of communities in stewarding, documenting, and sharing innovations, fostering peer learning and the exchange of best practices across Africa.
