Gatsibo District: Awareness Campaign on Gender-Based Violence and Child Protection
On July 22nd 2024, Certa Foundation's pro bono lawyer, Me. Ephrazie Harerimana, conducted an important outreach activity in Gatsibo District's Kiramuruzi sector. The event, which gathered approximately 23 teen mothers, focused on raising awareness about critical societal issues concerning gender-based violence (GBV) and child protection. Me Ephrazie's discourse delved into the legal intricacies surrounding child protection laws, GBV laws, and policies. She emphasized the critical importance of understanding and combating gender-based violence, particularly sexual gender-based violence against children. By engaging the teen mothers in a thoughtful discussion, Me Ephrazie highlighted the detrimental effects of GBV and underscored the urgent need to safeguard children from harm.
The event served as a pivotal platform for the Certa Foundation's advocacy efforts, aiming to empower teen mothers to identify, report, and prevent instances of violence and abuse. Through education and awareness, the foundation aspires to foster a safer and more supportive environment for all residents, particularly vulnerable groups such as women and children. This awareness campaign in Gatsibo District marks a significant stride towards creating a more informed and vigilant community, dedicated to upholding the rights and dignity of every teen mother.
