On 25 November 2025, the Center for Justice and Advocacy at Certa Foundation in partnership with Kvinna Till Kvinna conducted an awareness campaign in Nyarugenge District as part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Bringing together over 150 participants, including youth, teen mothers, community leaders, RNP and RIB officers, prosecutors, child protection officers, and Isange One Stop Center representatives, the campaign aimed to strengthen community understanding of GBV, especially digital violence, and to increase awareness of rights, available services, and reporting pathways.

The event featured a powerful theatre performance by Maison de Jeunes youth, illustrating the real-life consequences of domestic violence on children and how vulnerability can lead to further exploitation. This artistic approach created an engaging entry point for discussing child protection, collective responsibility, and the importance of safe family environments. Prosecutors from Nyarugenge further deepened the dialogue by explaining the various forms of GBV, penalties for crimes such as rape and defilement (ranging from 15 years to life imprisonment), and the growing risks of human trafficking disguised as foreign job opportunities. Participants were provided with practical reporting mechanisms, emergency contacts, and guidance on how to recognize and respond to suspicious situations.

The campaign successfully strengthened community awareness, improved coordination among key stakeholders, and empowered participants to become active protectors within their communities. By emphasizing legal knowledge, digital safety, and survivor-centered support, the activity reinforced a shared commitment to preventing GBV and ensuring safer environments for women, girls, and vulnerable groups in Nyarugenge District.
