16 Days of Activism Awareness Campaign in Rwamagana District

On 26th November 2025, as part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), CERTA Foundation led an impactful awareness campaign in Saint Aloys, Rwamagana District, Eastern Province under the theme: “United to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.”
The event brought together over 500 students, ranging from primary to high school age, alongside community leaders, RIB officers, the Child Protection Officer, MAJ, Isange One Stop Center staff, and JAF representatives. The campaign aimed to educate young people on technology-facilitated GBV (TFGBV), promote digital safety, strengthen reporting mechanisms, and foster collective action to make online spaces safer for women and girls.
The campaign featured a play performance by students that vividly illustrated scenarios of digital abuse. The sketches showcased intimate relationships turning harmful when private images were threatened to be shared, alongside instances of online harassment and sextortion. Importantly, the performance highlighted practical prevention and reporting mechanisms, guiding victims to Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) and Isange One Stop Centers for support.
Me Euphrasie Harerimana, our pro bono lawyer in Rwamagana District, commended the students for their creativity and understanding of GBV and TFGBV. She emphasized the foundation’s Access to Justice program, which provides legal, psychosocial, and guidance services to survivors. She encouraged students to remain proactive in protecting themselves and supporting peers, reinforcing the importance of vigilance, empathy, and advocacy in their communities.
